WIND FARM EXPOSE
Wind Power Baloney

Updated link
http://cheekystoat.blog.co.uk/?tag=darling-%20youre%20talking%20a%20lot%20of%20wind

A headline news story today is the announcement of the opening of the largest wind farm site in the UK, in mid-Wales on the mountain plateau of Cefn Croes, at a cost of £50m. This is just for starters according to HM Government ( Blair), who put out that they are committed to wind power as part of their drive for cleaner electricity. This ties in of course with Blair's pretend concern over greenhouse gas emissions and global warming.

Before we launch into the subject proper, a sideline of thought for consideration by all proper-thinking people might be the question; if Tony Blair claims to be so humane as to have fatherly concern about us all and about our children's futures, rising sea levels etc, that he somehow is convinced is being caused by carbon emissions ( and that is a still unproven assumption ), how is it that he was prepared to send British troops to their deaths in Iraq on the back of a fabricated and non-existent threat to our country? The man doesn't have a compassionate bone in his body. And if he does it's borrowed from the heartless Thatcher.

The wind farm jigsaw is now complete with a letter written to TGO magazine ( The Great Outdoors) by Professor Peter A. Bullough of Sheffield University. In it he states and I quote;

" This is a nasty industry dominated by huge multinational energy companies, many with major interests in "politically incorrect" fossil fuel and nuclear generation. I suspect that many of your readers might have been reluctant to oppose wind power, in the belief that it is a real alternative to coal, gas or nuclear -it is not. Anybody who makes the effort to understand how electricity generation and grid distribution works will realize what a scam the whole business is.

When wind is available, "conventional" turbines ( nuclear or fossil fuel) are NOT switched off, they are connected in parallel with the wind turbines. As the output from wind turbines is unpredictable ( often our weather is also calm ) the conventional turbines must continue to run at near-maximum torque to smooth out variation in the wind power. This means steam pressure ( that drives the conventional turbines) must be kept up and the furnaces that are supplied with fossil fuel must keep running even though the conventional turbines might not be supplying any real power.

The Danes didn't realize this in their headlong dash for wind. However, they have lately discovered that even though they can now generate 20 per cent of their electricity needs from wind, their consumption of fossil fuels and emissions of carbon dioxide are virtually the same as before, with or without the wind blowing.

Unfortunately our government listens only to the advice of the wind power industry and to the "green" lobby, both of which seem determined to ignore these inconvenient facts. If you are concerned,I suggest writing to your MP, MSP or AM - he or she might need educating."

-Prof. Peter A. Bullough
University of Sheffield
TGO Magazine, April 2004

So in other words, because Wind Power is so unreliable there must always be a steady fossil fuel/nuclear power supply full on and ready to kick in to back it up. So in effect there's no point having it in the first place.

This, combined with my THIS WIND FARM BALONEY 2 previous blog (please read upcoming post) in which I recount another article implicating Blair and the Labour Party in with the directorship of the company who manufacture the wind turbines, should be enough for any reasonable person to see clearly what is going on behind this government's farcical public facade on renew-ables.

Which is that this shameless Government, headed by the most unscrupulous politician at work in the western world today is prepared to see the ravaging of some of the most precious landscape left untouched on this small island together with the utter waste of £millions of taxpayers' money; on something which does not affect carbon emissions at all. And he knows it!

All to line his, his cronies and big landowners' fat cat pockets.

And so should " Friends Of The Earth" know it by now. What on earth are they doing supporting something which is redundant, ineffectual, environmentally destructive and retrograde? Tony Juniper WAKE UP and smell the coffee, before FOE become a complete laughing stock.

In a real democracy - not a sham one - Blair would be locked up in the big house along with Saddam.

Hmmmmm, would you advocate nuclear power as a green alternative?

I don't think we are being given the info facts about the real energy choices we have Denny - it's being blurred by big business interests. If Blair promotes new nuclear, he will try to convince us its the "only realistic alternative" . In other words it's the best money-making deal for him personally, backhanders-wise.

We may be able to self-sustain from fossil fuel power stations with C02 cleaning accessories for hundreds of years yet for all we are being told, by which time the technology may well be in place for totally safe nuclear fusion plants that run off seawater.

But windpower is definitely a pretty unequivocal "forget it" until the day the wind blows at gale force constantly.

This whole energy/water saving thing is about brain-washing the public into accepting higher utility bills and even more fatcat profits.

And that Professor Bullough has a longer name than he needs. Who owns him, eh?

I've been on Greek islands that had wind power generators producing a reasonable percentage of their power. Nobody had a bad word to say about them, but in the UK where it is very windy we have a lot of bulloughs printed in the press to convince us we want to glow in the dark... Suspicious or what?

I think the professor and many like him are simply stating the laws of physics and scientific facts, Dr Dark. Like one plus one usually makes two - unless you are living in an alternative universe?

The Greek Islands either have a constant full-on back-up from conventional fossil fuel power stations or they have frequent power cuts when the wind drops. Which would you prefer Darky?

Ps I agree he has a silly name, but there again what about a Dr Dark, talking about electricity supply?? ;)

Plus of course there is the subject that all these wind farms are creating an effect on the Earth's rotation.

Remember learning about Newtons laws at school???
Remember the one about for every action there is an equal & opposite reaction...

For every wind turbine being hit by the wind, the wind is trying to push the turbine forward, but because it is anchored to the earth it is prevented from so doing and turns instead. However not all of that energy is converted into rotational energy, some of it does travel down to the ground and has a minute effect on the rotational speed of the earth.

Eventually we will reach the point where sufficient wind turbines will have a combined effect on the earths rotation - slowing it down. This will make the duration of a day longer than 24 hours - it will also have the effect of exposing each part of the earth's surface to the sun for longer each day and cause a further increase in global warming.

On the plus side however this will also create hotter days and colder nights which in turn will create more winds around the coastlines thus providing more chances of windfarms actually working efficiently !!!

Yes Steph, now let's go for it, in exposing the lies, hypocrisy and corruption!

You are preaching to the converted here. I used to think that windpower was the answer to all our needs a safe green alternative then i began to read about them ..... they are a political/media hype. They are expensive, subsidies alone put up all of our electricity costs... they cant work when theres no wind or when there is too much wind ( grid overload. Building these monstrosities wont result in the closure of one nuclear or coal powerstation - the wind factories need these as back up.
Wind farms imply nice people freindly methods of production, rural non-industrial ... play with the language these things are industrial blots on the landscape they are WIND FACTORIES.
Currently we are fighting the construction of a massive wind factory in a regional park, clyde muirsheil park one of the last great wilderness' on the west coast of scotland. We are NOT NIMBY's there are already wind factories on a smaller scale to the S/W of the town. But this is an abomination.

Please google LWFAG or Ladymoor Wind Farm and have a look at what they have planned for here. The Language that Wind Hydrogen use in their publicity is very very suspect and negates to mention that the technology itself is nothing more than a way of extracting money through subsidies and from the futures market in the form of ROC's.

Thanks for that Shaz, can you email them this link?
Yes there is always the need for a constant electicity stream on the National Grid; it won't tolerate more than 5% fluctuation in power supply - or there would be very frequent blackouts nationwide.

It's not so much that there has to be a back up of fully running electricity supply from the fossil fuel power stations, because when the wind is blowing the wind turbines do of course save electricity; rather the giant furnaces that produce the steam to drive the electicity-producing turbines in the conventional power stations must be kept stoked up to the max ( with coal/oil/gas ) in order to be ready for the turbines to be smooth out the big variations in power from the wind farm supply. So in effect there's no point having them in the first place. It's one big giant scam and a lie!
